Olympic Pen and Quinault observation, published in 1997, by then undergraduate at UW, during the previous conflicts with environmentalist, logging, resources, spotted owl and social/political conflicts. JUST LIKE READING OUR DAILY NEWS TODAY, yet 97 still seems like yesterday. I wonder what this guy would have to say today, with the Land and Water Grabs, massive Conservation Movements, debris fed Wildland fires, Forest Service Sellout/Lockout of Public Lands, Federal/Tribal Partnership bed down, EW Wilderness Warfare, Jet Pollution
    AND NOW OLYMPEX
making sure we are UN micro monitored to quench their thirst, from Americas blood. PLUS the surround and attack set up now marking us a military hotspot target, by possible enemy attacks. A bullseye! Boots on the ground will continue to push their way around.
What would this guy say about our “new” thoroughfare out in the river? Building the “new Floodplain by Design”, creating a “new wetland” after destroying the natural flowing old one. The Congressional puppet show has to prove that “No Child Left Behinder’s” show some worth, by giving those inexperienced “new” graduates a chance to try out their “new learned skills” acquired from “new” computer modeling software and with “new” 21st century “what if” speculations. In some instances incomplete assumptions altogether, can result in unnecessary irreparable damage . Mother nature doesn’t always work in structural regularity or conduct itself by the books. Science? Science has taken on a peculiar detour in definition. “New” science is anything one wants it to be or mean in today’s world. Science doesn’t even need a purpose. A continual never ending study. A curiosity. To either kill the cat or nurture it into a predatory state.

YES, Out here in 112 I SAW SOME OF THE GUN SHOW SIGNS IN THE BACK OF A DOT TRUCK because they were too close to the road.   I know one of the “stop” signs out here in 112 was questionably close too.

A very reliable witness reported evidence of WSDOT taking possession  and having political GUN SHOW SIGNS in the back of a WSDOT truck. Signs taken from and on highway 112, near Joyce WA.

     Did anyone do anything?

Yes, I did follow the WSDOT lead to the missing POLITICAL SIGNS.

10:10 am, I called WSDOT (360)565-0680 Olympic Region #3 Port Angeles, WA. I spoke with MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR STEVE RUSSELL.

First regarding WSDOT  truck Highway 112 with gun show signs in the truck. Next, the 10 “STOP WILD OLYMPIC” taken from Highway 101 and 112.

Law or WSDOT courtesy policy?  Signs taken by WSDOT are held for 15 days or 30 days in the WSDOT yard so owners may claim, pick up their signs.

10:17 am Steve called back. There are ZERO Joyce gun show signs in the WSDOT yard. There are five (5) “STOP WILD OLYMPIC” signs in the WSDOT yard.

WSDOT Steve will do an internal investigation. He will speak with his drivers this pm, who took what, when, were, and why.

    —————————————————————-

    • BUY BEHIND THE GREEN MASK

WHAT IS UNITED NATIONS AGENDA 21?
UN Agenda 21/Sustainable Development is the action plan implemented worldwide to inventory and control all land, all water, all minerals, all plants, all animals, all construction, all means of production, all energy, all education, all information, and all human beings in the world.

    INVENTORY AND CONTROL.
Considering that its policies are woven into all the General Plans of the cities and counties, it’s important for people to know where these policies are coming from.

While many people support the United Nations for its ‘peacemaking’ efforts, few know that they have very specific land use policies that they expect to see implemented in every city, county, state and nation.

The specific plan is called United Nations Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, which has its basis in Communitarianism. By now, most Americans have heard of sustainable development but are largely unaware of Agenda 21.

In a nutshell, the plan calls for governments to take control of all land use and not leave any of the decision making in the hands of private property owners.

It is assumed that people are not good stewards of their land and the government will do a better job if they are in control.

Individual rights in general are to give way to the needs of communities as determined by the governing body.

Moreover, people should be rounded up off the land

and packed into human settlements, or islands of human habitation, close to employment centers and transportation.

Another program, called the Wildlands Project spells out how most of the land is to be set aside for non-humans.

U.N. Agenda 21 cites the affluence of Americans as being a major problem which needs to be corrected.

It calls for lowering the standard of living for Americans so that the people in poorer countries will have more, a redistribution of wealth. Although people around the world aspire to achieve the levels of prosperity we have in our country, and will risk their lives to get here,

Americans are cast in a very negative light and need to be taken down to a condition closer to average in the world. Only then, they say, will there be social justice which is a cornerstone of the U.N. Agenda 21 plan.

Agenda 21 policies date back to the 1970’s but it got its real start in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro when President Bush signed onto it.

President Clinton signed it later and continued the program in the United States. Agenda 21 is ‘soft-law’ and did not have to be voted on by the Congress.

A non-governmental organization called the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives, ICLEI, is tasked with carrying out the goals of Agenda 21. Over 600 cities in the U.S. are members, and that number is growing. The costs are paid by taxpayers.

It’s time that people educate themselves and read the document and related commentary. After that, get a copy of your city or county’s General Plan and read it. You will find all sorts of policies that are nearly identical to those in U.N. Agenda 21.

    GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

*NOW CLALLAM COUNTY GOVERNMENT HAS tasked ITSELF with carrying out the ICLEI goals of Agenda 21.
    ——————————————————————-
Unfortunately, their policies have advanced largely unnoticed and we are now in the end game.
People need to identify their elected officials who are promoting the U.N.’s policies and hold them accountable for their actions.
    —————————————————————–
*THE ENTIRE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?
    ———————————————————

Only when we’ve identified who the people are and what they are trying to do will we be able to evaluate whether or not we approve of the policies they are putting forward.

Some people may think it’s appropriate for agencies outside the United States to set our policies and some people will not. The question is, aren’t Americans able to develop their own policies? Should we rely on an organization that consists of member nations that have different forms of governments, most of which do not value individual rights as much as we do? It’s time to bring U.N. Agenda 21 out in the open where we can have these debates and then set our own policies in accordance with our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Ok, you say, interesting, but I don’t see how that really affects me. Here are a few ways:

No matter where you live, I’ll bet that there have been hundreds of condos built in the center of your town recently. Over the last ten years there has been a ‘planning revolution’ across the US. Your commercial, industrial, and multi-residential land was rezoned to ‘mixed use.’ Nearly everything that got approvals for development was designed the same way: ground floor retail with two stories of residential above. Mixed use. Very hard to finance for construction, and very hard to manage since it has to have a high density of people in order to justify the retail. A lot of it is empty
    ———————————————————————
ELEVEN CLOSED BUSINESS ON 8TH ST IN PORT ANGELES WA
    ————————————————————

and most of the ground floor retail is empty too. High bankruptcy rate.

So what? Most of your towns provided funding and/or infrastructure development for these private projects. They used Redevelopment Agency funds. Your money. Specifically, your property taxes. Notice how there’s very little money in your General Funds now, and most of that is going to pay Police and Fire? Your street lights are off, your parks are shaggy, your roads are pot-holed, your hospitals are closing. The money that should be used for these things is diverted
    —————————————————————–
*FUNDING THE EPA SUE AND SETTLE, EPA GRANTS TO NON-PROFIT AGENDA 21 BACKERS
    —————————————————————–

into the Redevelopment Agency. It’s the only agency in government that can float a bond without a vote of the people. And they did that, and now you’re paying off those bonds for the next 45 years with your property taxes. Did you know that?

So, what does this have to do with Agenda 21?

Redevelopment is a tool used to further the Agenda 21 vision of remaking America’s cities. With redevelopment, cities have the right to take property by eminent domain—against the will of the property owner, and give it or sell it to a private developer. By declaring an area of town ‘blighted’ (and in some cities over 90% of the city area has been declared blighted)
    ———————————————————–
    *DETROIT IS BANKRUPT
    ——————————————————-

The property taxes in that area can be diverted away from the General Fund. This constriction of available funds is impoverishing the cities, forcing them to offer less and less services, and reducing your standard of living.

The money gets redirected into the Redevelopment Agency and handed out to favored developers building low income housing and mixed use. Smart Growth. Public distrust

The portability and stealth that appeals to wildlife biologists is part of what some people fear about drones.

When Port Angeles resident Pearl Rains Hewett found out about the seabird surveys, she fired off an angry letter to her congressional representative.

After so many instances of government snooping, like the National Security Agency combing through phone and Internet records, Hewett said she doesn’t trust scientists who say the images and data they collect will be used only for research.

Indeed, NOAA has experimented with the use of its drones for law enforcement, searching for illegal fishing operations off the coasts of Florida and California, Jacobs said. When the Puma flying near La Push filmed two people walking on the beach, he explained that all human images are erased from the video.

“It disturbs me that this is what my grandchildren and great-grandchildren are going to be living with,” Hewett said. “A Big Brother society that is watching you everywhere.”

NOAA testing drones to monitor Wash. Coast
By Sandi Doughton, The Seattle Times Published: Wednesday, July 17, 2013, 10:13 am

A X47-B navy drone grabs the wire as it lands aboard the nuclear aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush off the Coast of Virginia Wednesday, July 10, 2013. It is the first landing by a drone on a Navy carrier. The landing of the X-47B experimental aircraft means the Navy can move forward with its plans to develop another unmanned aircraft that will join the fleet alongside traditional airplanes to provide around-the-clock surveillance while also possessing a strike capability. (AP Photo/Steve Helber)
LA PUSH, Wash. (AP) — Standing in the stern of the RV Tatoosh, Nick Morgan held aloft what looked like an oversized model airplane. As the propeller started to whirl, Morgan cocked his arm and flung the plane as if he were throwing a spear.

The 4-foot-long aircraft banked gracefully and spiraled up into a cloud-streaked sky. Within seconds, it blended in among the targets it was dispatched to spy on: cormorants, gulls and murres wheeling above the tiny islands on the Washington coast where the birds nest and rear their young.

The miniature plane is a drone, a Puma AE, part of a $350,000 unmanned aircraft system. Once used mostly for surveillance and reconnaissance on the battlefield, small, unmanned aircraft like the Puma are quickly catching on in the civilian world — with scientists like those aboard the Research Vessel Tatoosh last month leading the way.

The team of federal biologists spent two weeks flying fixed-wing Pumas and mini-helicopters over remote beaches to test their usefulness for seabird and marine-debris surveys.

“They’re wonderful tools,” said Matt Pickett, who helped coordinate the project for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “They have the potential to change the way scientists do marine monitoring.”

Already home to a thriving drone industry led by Boeing subsidiary Insitu, the Pacific Northwest is also a hot spot for putting the devices to work in the service of science. Researchers in Washington are using them to monitor restoration of the recently un-dammed Elwha River. Scientists from Oregon State University are flying drones over potato fields this month to see if thermal sensors can identify ailing plants early enough to save them.

Drone-mounted cameras have also helped biologists identify habitat for endangered pygmy rabbits, while fish managers use mini-choppers to map Chinook salmon spawning sites on the Snake River. Projects on the drawing board include the use of drones for avalanche and snowpack surveys and glacier monitoring.

Though some residents on the Olympic Peninsula were unhappy to have their turf invaded by tiny aircraft, the scientific use of drones hasn’t yet drawn the same type of privacy concerns that forced the Seattle Police Department to warehouse its unmanned aircraft. Several states, including Idaho and Montana, enacted restrictions this year on the use of drones for law enforcement or to spy on people.

“For things like surveying eagle nests and trumpeter swans and vegetative analysis, I would say 99 out of 100 people have supported what we’re doing,” said Mike Hutt, who manages 36 drones — one of the largest civilian fleets — for the U.S. Geological Survey and the Department of the Interior.

    Even near volcanoes

The USGS first experimented with drones during Mount St. Helens’ 2004 eruption. The small airplanes didn’t fare well in turbulent weather and the sensors weren’t as good as those on manned helicopters, said USGS volcanologist John Pallister, of the Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, Wash.

But the experiments proved it was possible to collect data from an erupting volcano with drones — something scientists did earlier this year in Costa Rica.

Since 2004, cameras, heat sensors and other instruments have shrunk dramatically while navigation and control systems have improved. Coupled with the development of smaller, more affordable vehicles, those advances are helping fuel a science rush, Hutt said.

Unmanned-aircraft manufacturers are also courting new customers as the U.S. pulls back from Iraq and Afghanistan. “Everybody is happy to sell you stuff,” said Juris Vagners, emeritus professor of aeronautics at the University of Washington.

Scientists and public agencies need to steer clear of the hype, consider public reaction and do the math to figure out whether unmanned aircraft are cheaper or better than traditional methods, he cautioned.

The Seattle Police Department’s failed attempt to integrate drones into its toolbox cost taxpayers $82,000.

NOAA’s operations on the Washington coast this summer are part of a two-year project to evaluate the costs and benefits of unmanned aircraft. “We think it’s going to save us money and have much less impact on the environment,” said coordinator Todd Jacobs.

The craft seem particularly promising for hard-to-reach places and jobs that are tedious or dangerous, and can be operated for about a tenth the cost of a manned helicopter, he said.

Federal biologists survey seabirds on the Washington coast every year, mostly by helicopter, said Sue Thomas, of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. But several survey crews have died in accidents across the country.

In the cabin of the research boat just after the Puma took wing, Thomas watched video from the camera mounted on the little plane’s belly.

“These are all common murres,” she said, pointing to tight-packed clusters of birds nesting on top of a small island. The noise of a chopper can spook wildlife, Thomas added, but the seabirds seemed oblivious to the silent observer circling overhead.

    Issues of price, rules

The biggest obstacles to wider scientific use of drones are the cost and cumbersome regulations, Vagners said.

The price of off-the-shelf aircraft ranges from $10,000 to $350,000 or more, but is dropping rapidly. The Army spent $250,000 each for the fixed-wing AeroVironment Ravens it donated to the Department of the Interior. Similar planes now cost about $20,000, Hutt estimated.

That’s still a lot of money for many scientists. “Working with drones isn’t nearly as cheap or easy as I thought it would be,” said UW environmental engineer Jessica Lundquist, who plans to experiment with small aircraft for avalanche control and snowpack monitoring in the Cascade Mountains.

Most of the craft require two trained operators. And getting approval to fly from the Federal Aviation Administration can take six months to a year. “It has been such a niche industry,” Lundquist said. “I think there’s a ton of potential, but it’s not as far along as you would think.”

Though the UW is a hub for development of computer programs, gyroscopes and control systems for drones, most researchers there test their craft indoors only, because of the FAA restrictions.

Much of the burden will be lifted by 2015, when the FAA adopts national regulations for small drones. In the meantime, many researchers limit their outdoor operations to restricted military airspace, where it’s easier to get permission.

William Mell, of the Forest Service’s Pacific Wildland Fire Sciences Laboratory in Seattle, travels to a military reservation in Texas to experiment with fire-monitoring drones. His goal is to fine-tune the computer models firefighters use to predict the way blazes will spread.

    Public distrust

Mell uses gas-powered aircraft that can stay aloft for several hours. The battery-powered Pumas NOAA tested on the Washington coast have a range of about 8 miles, and can fly for two hours at a stretch. Weighing in at 13 pounds, the Pumas can be disassembled and carried in a backpack.

The portability and stealth that appeals to wildlife biologists is part of what some people fear about drones. When Port Angeles resident Pearl Raines Hewett found out about the seabird surveys, she fired off an angry letter to her congressional representative.

Today’s small drones aren’t the perfect spying machines many people envision, said Kristi Morgansen, a UW engineer working to make the aircraft more agile and maneuverable. Most cameras used for scientific research have a narrow field of view, and the unmanned systems don’t do a good job of searching wide swaths of terrain for small targets.

    Improvements are inevitable, though.

“People are very understandably protective of their privacy,” Morgansen said. “But somebody is going to develop this technology, and if the U.S. doesn’t keep up, that’s going to be a real problem.”

    Science was early goal

The use of drones for science represents a return to the field’s roots. Many of the early craft were designed to take weather readings and collect atmospheric data. Vagners was part of a team that in 1998 orchestrated the first trans-Atlantic crossing by an aerial drone.

But the military quickly recognized the potential, and has dominated research and development for more than a decade.

Now, the industry is seeking to shed its fearsome image and head off PR disasters over privacy. The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, the largest industry group, is so eager to promote scientific applications that it sent two staffers to the Washington coast, partly to drum up media coverage of NOAA’s work.

There’s a lot of money at stake. The Teal Group, an aerospace research firm, estimates that global spending on drones will total $89 billion over the next decade. AUVSI calculates that Washington state could gain 10,000 drone-related jobs by 2025, and the state is competing to be one of six drone testing and research centers designated by the FAA.

Most researchers working with drones are convinced they will soon be just another research tool. Jacobs and his crew are already laying plans to return to Washington next summer.

As in all field work, drones operate subject to weather. The group lost several days to rain and high winds, but the flying robots themselves are surprisingly robust, Jacobs said onboard the Tatoosh, as the Puma circled in for a landing and splashed down on its belly just off the stern, wings detaching as they are designed to do.

Morgan grabbed the plane and hauled it back into the boat, ready for another run.

But on this summer day, it was old-fashioned technology that brought the expedition to an early halt. Dark smoke in the Tatoosh’s exhaust signaled bad news: an engine malfunction that would take more than a week to fix.

Abominable Anomalies: World’s Most Extreme Genetic Mutations & Variations
    • Written by Marsea Truan Rosebud

Genetic mutations are a fact of life on Earth. Without genetic variations, there would be no evolution, and we would all still be swimming around in the prehistoric sludge. When the first amphibian crawled out of that primordial soup onto dry land, doubtless its mind was on something banal – the search for food or perhaps a mate – rather than planning for the future of life on Earth. However, that one little step set into motion a chain of events that would lead to life as we know it.

Mutations, however, are not always a positive influence. From some of the worst viral outbreaks to the development of incurable cancers and other diseases, mutations have frequently proven to be more of a burden than a blessing. Much of this can be blamed, not surprisingly, on the impact of humans. We seem to have this urge to mess with nature, whether it is good for us or not, and it is just about never good for nature.

However, not all genetic mutations can be blamed on man, with many simply occurring in the natural world. We have put together a list of five of the most extreme or grotesque genetic mutations, both natural and man-made.
    1. Microcephaly
    2. Polydactyly
    3. Conjoined Twins and Organs

    4. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
Despite appearing in nearly 75 percent of the packaged food in America, little is known about GMOs, including their impact on the environment and on the people who consume them daily. Although they are technically deemed safe by the US Food and Drug Association (FDA), many discount this seal of approval as yet another agency in the pocket of GMO bullies like Monsanto (who makes the stuff in the first place). The pro-GMO movement is spearheaded by Monsanto and backed up by familiar names like PepsiCo (who makes Naked Juice), Coca Cola (manufacturers of Odwalla, “Honest” Tea, and Simply Orange juice, among other “health drinks”), and Kellogg (maker of Kashi cereal, Gardenburger, and Morningstar Farms, among many other giants within the food industry). The one that really hurts, however, is Unilever, maker of *sob* Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.
These companies know that if we are allowed to see that they are using GMOs in their products, we may be less likely to buy them. This is why the Pro-GMO/Anti Prop 37 campaign set out to defeat California’s “Right To Know Genetically Engineered Food Act,” which would have required labels on all foods containing GMOs. With the GMO-lovers backed up by a $46 million campaign (compared to Yes on 37’s measly $9 million) to mislead the public about the proposition (and mislead it did), the proposition failed.
    —————————————————————-
While Yes on 37 may have had more companies on their side (37 versus 16), the No campaign had all the money.
In case you are sitting here wondering “why the heck should I care about GMOs?,” here is some food for thought:
Firstly, GMOs are a new science which has had only limited testing and not nearly enough time to witness its effects on long-term growth.
Secondly, GMOs are a danger to our ecosystem. When organisms are modified inside of a lab, whether it be to make the plant or animal larger, stronger, or more resistant to pests (some labs are engineering cabbage to produce scorpion venom… that sounds safe), the process can easily lend itself to error. The procedure is accomplished by mixing the genes of other organisms, including viruses, with DNA from the host, in order to achieve the desired results, whatever they may be.

In the best case scenario, you will end up with a mutant plant or animal WITHOUT any X-Men powers, but perhaps with the ability to repel aphids. Congratulations.

At the worst, you start a global pandemic. Here’s how: Imagine you have a bad throat infection. You go to the doctor, and he or she prescribes antibiotics with the express instructions to take them until they are gone. But after a couple of days, you are feeling better and don’t think you need those antibiotics anymore, so you stop taking those suckers, and then a day later your throat infection is back, but this time it is much worse.

This analogy works perfectly when describing GMOs. When a pesticide is engineered into a plant, like corn or soy, the first insects that choose to have a snack will meet their untimely end. But there will be one or two (or a hundred) insects who have a miniature nibble, then watch their buddies clutch their hands to their throats and fall to the earth. The jig is up.

So now, insect number two has a tiny bit of the pesticide in his body, just enough for his little insect immune system to take it down, and those antibodies will be passed from generation to generation until traditional pesticides no longer work on them. What then?
Many countries, like Germany, New Zealand, and Ireland, have banned GMOs completely, with many others requiring labels, the way California wanted to.

However, some countries are using GMOs to create some pretty questionable animals. One of these is “Glowpig.” Scientists cloned a pig with the DNA of a jellyfish to allow the pig to glow under blacklight. I know, the word “why” is probably at the top of your brain right now, so here is their explanation: by causing this very noticeable mutation, they can test future generations for the trait, which was found in two of the 11 piglets born of the glowing mother. If you ask me, I think someone just thought it would be sick to bring a glowing pig to a rave.

    5. Viruses: Manmade Bird Flu
MANY OF US REMEMBER THE BIRD FLU (H5N1) OUTBREAK THAT OCCURRED IN 2004 (WITH LESS INTENSE INCIDENCES RE-OCCURRING BETWEEN 2005 AND 2007). BY ALL ACCOUNTS, THE 2004 OUTBREAK WAS A FULL-BLOWN PANDEMIC, BUT THE POSSIBILITIES OF A NEW, MUCH MORE DEADLY OUTBREAK ARE COMPLETELY POSSIBLE DUE TO MAN-MADE GENETIC MUTATION.

Scientists at Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands have genetically modified the H5N1 virus to be easily transmittable to ferrets, an animal whose immune system reacts very similarly to that of a human when it comes to viruses. It literally only took five simple “tweaks” (scientific term) to create the new scary-as-hell virus.

Opinions about the project are broad. While scientists argue that it will allow them to learn about disease transmission, there are others who rightfully think that this science project would be more at home in a Resident Evil game.

Mutations can be good or bad. When nature mutates something, it is usually for the benefit of the species or the Earth as a whole. When we mutate things, it is almost always for the benefit of us, even if it’s only for short-term gain, and
we are too short-sighted to see the end approaching.

GM SALMON The fish’s rapid growth will be boosted by the injection of a combination of a growth gene (GH-coding sequences) from the Pacific Chinook salmon and genetic material (the AFP gene) from the ocean pout – a large, eel-like fish – into the fertilized eggs of Atlantic salmon, making the recombined DNA present in cells throughout the body of the fish. The Chinook gene promotes the growth to market size, and the pout gene allows the fish to grow in the winter as well as the summer.

    01. The first commercial GM food was the FlavrSavr tomato developed in the early 1990s in California. It was genetically altered so that it took longer to decompose after being picked.

    02. GM crops have been grown commercially since 1996. Since then the GM market has grown 74-fold and spread to 25 countries. The global value of the GM crop market was 7.5 billion dollars in 2008.

    03. There were 125 million hectares of GM crops worldwide in 2008, about 6 to 7 percent of the total cultivated land area. That is an increase of nearly 10 percent on the 114 million hectares in 2007.
    04. The top three GM crops in 2008 were soybeans (53 percent of total GM area), maize (30 percent), and cotton (15 percent). Others include rapeseed (canola), alfalfa, and papaya.

    05. Ninety percent of GM crops, and almost all GM food crops, are grown in four countries—the United States, Argentina, Brazil, and Canada. The U.S. produces almost half of all GM crops.

    06. There are 13.3 million farmers cultivating GM crops. The vast majority are smallholders in China (7.1 million) and India (5 million) who are growing GM cotton.

    07. Almost all commercial GM crops today are genetically altered for one or both of two main traits: herbicide tolerance (63 percent) and insect resistance (15 percent), while 22 percent have both traits. Different genetic traits are combined to create “stacked” GM crops.
    08. In the United States 12.2 million hectares of GM crops (nearly 10 percent of the global total) were used for biofuels in 2008.

    09. According to industry research, in 2007 GM crops saved 15.6 million tons of CO2 through rejduced herbicide and pesticide use and reduced tillage, the equivalent of removing 6.3 million cars from the road.

    10. Future GM crops likely to be commercialized by 2015 include rice, eggplant, potatoes, and wheat. Drought resistant and nutritionally enhanced crops are also expected in the near future.
